Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
